Welcome to The Lark

A low-key but smart drinking space, where one can relax with a pour of wine and a snack on Tuesday, and then shop for a few great bottles to take home for Saturday’s dinner party.

Retail Shop & Wine Tasting Bar

At the Lark we seek out and sell wines that are responsibly made, aka practicing organic/biodynamic farming and minimal intervention winemaking; this includes many Natural wines that are super unique. It also includes lots of gorgeous classic wines from producers simply doing the right thing.

The small list of wines we pour at the tasting bar rotates monthly so you can come back often to try new wines. Even after its time on the tasting list, you can generally find it on our retail shelves.

The Lark is owned and operated by local restaurateur and sommelier, Krista Lark Slater.

Meet Krista Lark Slater

I like getting people excited about drinking in a diverse way without being pedantic. The end goal of it all is getting people to feel great about trying new things, regardless of their level of wine knowledge or budget.

I'm a visual artist turned sommelier who likes cold martinis and intentional spaces. A certified commelier since 2006, I have worked for over 15 years in the world of wine retail and restaurants, first in California and now in Georgia. I lived nearly 10 years in Atlanta, half of which were spent operating the cocktail destination H. Harper Station with my husband and business partner, Jerry Slater. We left Atlanta for Athens in 2016, and in 2018 opened The Expat, a bistro and cocktail bar in the Five Points neighborhood. The Lark was opened in late 2020, with Slater's Steakhouse, our ode to mid-century dining, to follow in 2022. Nighthawks Lounge, our ideal design for a watering hole, opened in the summer of 2023.

Every now and then, I still find time to paint.

FAQ

What are your Hours?

We are open seven days a week! Sunday–Thursday from 1-8pm, Friday and Saturday from 12pm-10pm.

Do I need to make a reservation?

Nope! We don’t take reservations for regular service, just walk in. As a tiny space, our max group size is around 8 guests. 10 if you like to squeeze in.

Can I reserve the space for a private event?

Sure! Just email krista@thelarkwinespace.com to start the conversation. Please include a date, time frame, and number of guests in your inquiry to help us get you an accurate quote.

Do you Offer Wine Tastings? How does it work?

Each and every day we are open, we offer a rotating list of 8 wines that are available to enjoy in either a 2oz or 5oz pour.  It is not a formal guided “tasting experience”, but we provide detailed educational notes on our menu. This list rotates very frequently so there is always something new to try. All of these wines are available for retail purchase. About once a month we have a special tasting takeover, with either a winemaker, importer, or just a special theme we are jazzed to talk about. Those are also casual, drop-in experiences. The best way to know about those is to follow us on instagram: @thelarkwinespace

Do you sell food?

We are by no means a restaurant, but we have a smart menu of snacks to go with your wine. Think cheeses, charcuterie, nuts, olives, and the largest tinned seafood list in the south. Sometimes we host a food pop-up. The best way to know about those is to follow us on instagram: @thelarkwinespace
